A photographic portrait of the ESO Paranal Observatory in the Chilean Atacama Desert. For 20 years the author has photographed the place, the telescopes, people at work, technical maintenance activities, exceptional weather conditions, stars at night and from the air. One chapter shows the challenging construction of the Very Large Telescope (VLT).
