parker tilghman holds a bfa in photography and visual studies from the california college of the arts (2012) in san francisco, ca. his work is primarily an investigation of the Photograph as a signifier of identity and its role in creating personal and cultural history. he is interested in how modes of representation can be altered— either in the darkroom, or when placed in a new context through the inclusion of non-photographic objects and structures. several of tilghman's images were recently included in the craft/forward symposium (cca/ucsf), an international gathering on the role of craft in the contemporary art world. during the summer of 2011, parker was an artist-in-residence with picture berlin in conjunction with künstquartier bethanien. he is a recipient of the national endowment for the arts scholarship in 2010 and 2011, and the cca all college honors award. tilghman's reviews and writings on art can be seen regularly in artslant and the san francisco bay guardian.
