With a continual feed of media information streamed to us edited, filtered and biased it becomes more and more difficult to cultivate truths from the haze of misinformation. The photograph, once a tool of science is also called in for questioning. The digital age has provided fertile ground for anyone with computer editing software to doctor photographs in a myriad of ways; from ‘air brushing’ and selective colouring, to political alterations designed to present a manipulated truth.



Although these manipulated photographic realities exist, the photograph still elicits reverie and a status beyond its multitude of faces. It is still trusted to give us facts.



But what is it in us that desires truth? Perhaps falsehoods are necessary in order to maintain a balance just as darkness requires an absence of light.



Truth has more to do with social conventions than actual reality. Everything that we see is filtered through our perceptions and experiences, providing us with individualistic subjective realities that shift and change daily. Stare at the World long enough and you begin to see patterns and shapes, all painted with the colours of memory. The more you look at something, the more it is transformed.



The work presented here explores the boundaries between what is real and what is imaginary. Between the constructed and the natural with residences and streets offering a hope of something solid, something safe. Some of the places exist in memory and some are places that are transitory, in-between Worlds without anchor in either but a stake in both.
