Über das Buch
Over a period of 18 months, photographer Michael Sprague travelled throughout Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas and Kansas, watching as the fabric of Midwestern rural life became more dust blown to the wind.
The rural crisis of this period created a class of dispossessed unknown since the Great Depresssion. Mostly white, many young, and most with children, these were people who once prospered on the soil their families had tilled for generations. These photographs are evidence to the victims of economic and political forces no more in their control than the dust storms of the 1930's.
