Über das Buch
Anti-selfie is a series of psychologically charged self-portraits investigating the handling of the photographic image in a way that aims to disrupt, de-construct and reconstruct the seamless and banal image through the medium of collage and through utilizing the found family snapshot in order to act as the ‘anti-selfie’ in bringing together two popular mediums being the image and depiction of the self in social constructs and dismantling its core and current value. The series poses questions surrounding the relationship between the familiar and unfamiliar in the form of grotesque surrealist collages and depiction of macabre beings, the primary format in presenting an on-going narrative as well an element of story-telling renders anti-selfie a juxtaposition between past and present in taking the subject from private to public in presenting the alternate autobiography.
“It is imperative as an artist in mediating and revising a new way of looking at and viewing the medium of photography within contemporary art practises as well notions surrounding the self in a social media society and culture.”
