Primer is a contemporary exploration of clothing, form, and environment. Primer is a fashion magazine. Page to page, image to image, the magazine format guides the viewer toward an understanding of individual images as part of a unified space in which the model exists.

This first issue ‘Launch’ is a point of departure for a future career in fashion photography, and presents four different series; Poolside, Resolute, Wildlife, and The Hemline Index that layout my respect for clothing design and my approach to photographing fabric, texture and the human form within the clothes.

Primer prioritizes the models’ physical form, environments, and the interrelation between the two. The locations were determined on their suitability to the specifics of the apparel celebrated. Clothing details are presented with graphic qualities and interspersed with full length portraits and graphically arranged studies of human form. Paired together, a hand will reach for a hand, the shape of wild grass will outline an arm, or the motion of fabric will mimic the body.

The design of the magazine incorporates interlacing form and color and interconnecting lines between positioned images while black and white images break and intercede the color. From hairline to grass hill, forms of nature and structure are echoed in models’ gestures and clothing cut and pattern. In its essence, Primer draws out the connectedness of model to dress to environment.
