Stagecoach Road is an historical novel about the Fischer family that lived in Mason and Pontotoc, Texas and the Elley’s that lived on Stagecoach Road near McQueeney, Texas in the first half of the 20th century. All the major events in this book occurred and are factual to the extent that research efforts have allowed and all the main characters including the Elley and Fischer family members are real.
These two families represent thousands that made their living as farmers on small farms in Texas primarily growing cotton in the early part of the 20th century. They experienced the pleasures and hardships of farming along with numerous personal tragedies and triumphs in their lifetimes. They were born into a unique culture and over time experienced an astounding array of technological advances and major worldwide events that dramatically altered their lifestyles.
The principal characters in this story are Elisa Fischer and Robert Elley, both of German ancestry, who fell in love, married in 1916 and lived on a farm on Stagecoach Road near McQueeney, Texas.
