Mawson, established in 1954 by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE), is the oldest continuously operating station south of the Antarctic Circle. The author of this book was privileged to be there as a member of the 1966 ANARE expedition. This tells the story of his year; stopping en-route to work on a new station being built; life and activities at Mawson; and as part of a four month trip to map inland mountains, many of which had never previously been visited. The book is copiously illustrated with photographs of the years' activities and is printed on good quality photo paper.


This book has been released for the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Mawson expedition. It is based around the author's photographs, both colour and black/white. Explanatory text and details have been added, to make the contents as informative as possible for younger audiences who possibly would not understand the working of a 'pre internet' world: how many younger people would now know of a 'telegram'?
