Through out hundreds of years, one of the oldest Icelandic traditions still remains the same today as it was back in the earliest of times. Every year the Icelandic farmers bring their sheep and horses up to pastures in the highlands for the summer. In the autumn the farmers ride up to gather and bring the animals back down to the farms in the valleys.

At Hjaltadalur in North Iceland the largest horse round up is taking place, where approximately 600 horses are being gathered in the long valley and brought down to the round up corral, the Laufskálarétt, to be sorted between the farmers.
