Los Angeles operates between a seemingly steady strained state and the cyclical effects that bring it back
towards its ‘average.’ A visitor may only come to know the steady state and perhaps that is what Baudrillard
sensed most in his visit to the city. But it is the extremes, the abnormal, and the cyclical that make the region
much more complex thermodynamically than it at first seems.
