The photographs in this book show the development of Pile, Pipe III, a work undertaken very soon after the completion of Pile, Pipe II, at the former Kinleith Mill site in Juniper Green, Edinburgh. Where the previous two were seen to be coming from a wall, I decided to experiment with the third coming from below. This decision was due largely in part to the nature of the site I was working in at the time. On inspection I discovered a number of underground spaces and tunnels that run underneath the area and so the pipe was angled to prompt other visitors to perhaps wonder what lay beneath their feet as they walked. Having had the time to reflect on this piece I feel there is something almost artillery-like about it, as if it could be moving along the ground as opposed to being fixed into it.
