"The Shepherds" is a collection of photographs of John Shepherd, who was born in 1849 in Tennessee, his wives and his descendants. It includes an essay, "How The Shepherds Got Their Start In Charlottesville," a brief biography highlighting the life of John Eldon Shepherd that aims to get to the bottom of some of the myths and legends. It also has a family tree beginning with John Shepherd and ending today- five generations later.
