This volume is the first in a series of publications by Stephen Calcutt, an illustrator based in Manchester, England.



Through his work Calcutt explores the concept of existing as a true 'multi-instrumentalist' practitioner; or as Kenneth FitzGerald of Eye Magazine describes it: "a graphical one-man-band"



His research into the practice of the graphic arts has allowed him to develop a gamut of skills and experiences, both traditional and technological. The conflicting nature of his abilities as an illustrator, animator, printmaker and digital design enthusiast has destroyed the commercial ‘illustrative style’ that he strived to develop as an undergraduate on the Illustration/Animation degree course at Manchester Metropolitan University back in the late 1990’s.



Confused and lost in a sense that he will never be recognised as an illustrator in the truest form, he has set about documenting his work over the last ten years in some vain, self-indulgent voyage of discovery and personal recognition.
