Obscurity was created to bring awareness to the social masks worn by individuals who self-harm. Many do not realize how prevalent self-harm is and do not understand that it is not just a certain “type” of person who does it. This lack of information on self-harm is partly due to the fact that the individuals who self-harm do so in secret —they HIDE.

Everyone puts on a mask in the morning before they leave the house. For individuals who self-harm, the masks are intended to make others believe that they are “okay” — “nothing is wrong.” Social masks obscure the self.
