Über das Buch
Jesus, Yeshua, King of Kings and Messiah are all names of one man who in Christian religions is believed to be the incarnation of God. While Christianity began as a Jewish sect in the first century, it has since grown all over the world. In American society, Christianity’s iconography and ideals have become as commercialized as any product or service, a practice that I find troubling and quite disingenuous.
Throughout the last few years I have come across an abundance of Christian images and icons, some in rather ridiculous items and locations. While my intention with these images is not to offend, the feeling of disdain or disgust they may invoke should bring viewers to question the commoditization of religion, and the contexts in which its imagery is used. I consciously use juxtaposition and humor as visual elements in the photographs in order to create a conscious onus of judgment within viewers in terms of looking at the producers of these products as well as the consumers who buy them.
