Venetian Sights is a series of photographs taken during the summer of 2013. Alana Colucci took part in the Venice Biennale program through Marist College, where she studied photography and art history for a month in Venice, Italy. During the intense four week study, Alana was committed to producing a photographic body of work. She was engaged in her surroundings and allowed herself to be inspired by the beauty of Venice.

Being one of the most photographed cities in the world, during her first week Alana had difficulty discovering what would make her photographs unique. As soon as she stepped away from the common sights she was able to capture the true essence of Venice. Once Alana found her focus, everything from the serene canals to the distinctive architecture became her subjects.

This series is meant to share the breathtaking sights that one will encounter while strolling down the cobblestone streets. Alana ventured far away from the tourist filled streets to discover the beauty that Venetian residents see everyday. Most of her photographs have an absence of people, because Alana found beauty in the vacant areas. Away from all the hustle and bustle, Venice is an absolutely stunning city.
