I have been described as an "amphibian" in that I have education, professional experience and licensure as both structural engineer and architect. For the past 15 years I have developed and taught courses in building structures geared for architectural students. I have taught at Virginia Tech, Philadelphia University, the University of Maryland and currently at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I am a founding member and past president of the Building Technology Educators' Society (BTES) (http://www.btesonline.org), the only North American academic society solely dedicated to the advancement of pedagogy in the areas of construction and structural technology for architects. The BTES is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
