Ever since the internal combustion engine replaced the horse in powering carriages, automobiles have played a pivotal role in the lives of men. They have supported economies and shaped the development of cities. The form of the car has inspired the engineering and artistic skills of man. Whether cool and elegant or wild and wacky, this machine tooled sculpture in painted metal, chrome and glass has been the icon of the twentieth century Industrial Age.

The car has been not just an incredibly freeing instrument for mobility by its owners, but also a possession of great admiration and pride. But as with all things of this world, the automobile is subject to the ravages of time and the elements. In 10 or 15 years, the once gleaming symbol of prosperity has become a dented and rusting shadow of it’s former glory. Most end up crushed and consumed by fire to be transformed into some new industrial creation.

A few escape this fiery fate. Some are left in fields, singly like monuments to another Age or in larger car cemeteries where Nature gradually reclaims her elements. Green tendrils insinuate themselves up and across peeling paint and ever expanding patches of rust.
