The Sculptural Works of Ivan Velilla - 12x12

Ivan's Velilla's work usually begin beside the stream running near his home in Phoenicia, New York. He returns home with the stones and weathered wood that he spied alongside the forested stream. He may bond with the fluidity of the water that held the materials where a rock engulfed by a sapling and could not resist a rock, and so embraced it. It moved his mind as in the curve of wood, a turn of the stone. His techniques and methods suggest that Nature hides concepts within the materials, and transformation is the result of breaking the codes regarding what is useful and what is beautiful and what has meaning. Ivan persuades found materials to cooperate with his unique sense of possibility and as he completes these sculptures, they also reveal Ivan.
