This striking photographic documentation of the conditions in South Africa during the early nineties at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, the biggest in the Southern hemisphere, and of life in Soweto is long overdue. It is important and necessary to show these rare behind the scenes images of pain, violence and sorrow in a typical Johannesburg township.

Still the white minority was in power, Nelson Mandela already released and the Africa National Congress Party acclaimed. The ANC positioned itself, ready to take over the power. Everybody knew that change was inevitable, but nobody knew what was to come. South Africa was in transition.
