The author grew up on a farm in north central Kansas, before the conveniences of electricity and indoor plumbing. He completed grades (1 – 8) in a one-room country school, and was the first of his family to earn a college degree. He then taught science and mathematics in the public schools for several years; and, after further study, spent over 30 years as a professor of mathematics at McCook Community College. During this time he also coached the Women's Volleyball Team for several years. He and his wife have always enjoyed “outdoor” activities and have experienced hunting, fishing, golf, bicycle riding, motorcycling, boating, flying, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and both water and snow skiing. They are now retired and enjoy living on a small farm in southwestern Nebraska.
