Über das Buch
By lifting the faces and voices of 20 Duval County Public School students, the ONE in THREE exhibit compels its viewers to take a closer look at the role we all play in the lives of all children in our city. The ONE by ONE campaign will mobilize the community to join forces and work together to improve public education in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Public Education Fund spearheaded the ONE in THREE photography exhibit in the fall of 2011 at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens to call the citizens of Jacksonville to action. We all know that our public education system must improve for our communities and country to thrive. But our schools need the community’s commitment and support.
Through dramatic portraits by Jacksonville photographer Ingrid Damiani, the faces and stories of 20 Duval County Public School students serve as a voice to begin an important conversation that touches us all.
We can start by learning from the children you will meet in the pages of this book. Some of them are among the one-third of Duval County students who do not graduate from high school on time or at all. Some have beaten the odds. All believe they need an education to be successful. In their eyes you see no despair—only hope. They have overcome great obstacles.
We can, too.
