In January 2011 Queensland was effected by one of its worst natural disaster in history with three-quarters of the state declared a disaster zone. An unexpected flash flood raced through Toowoomba's central business district before devastating communities in the Lockyer Valley. A few days later thousands of houses in Ipswich and Brisbane were inundated as the Wivenhoe Dam overflowed and the banks of the Brisbane River broke. The floods forced the evacuation of thousands of people from towns and cities. And Wivenhoe Dam filled to a level equivalent to 191% of its supply capacity, the first time in more than a decade.



At least seventy towns and over 200,000 people were affected, about 300 roads were closed, including nine major highways. During the flooding it was reported that 55% which is more than half of Queensland was affected by flooding "an area larger than France and Germany put together"



However from every disaster there are always positive's that arise on the other side. This book has been dedicated to the many that reached out to support others in this devastating time of need.
