“Documenting the relationships, dialogue and processes of an artistic collaboration that occurred between three third year Visual Arts students resulted in a story and an artist book”.



Artist book 001 not only documents the evolution of ideas, processes and practices that occurred during the collaborative, but also serves to tell other stories that mingled into one plot. This book delves into the imagery that is often discarded in the process of making an artwork, seeking to document the process, to highlight the journey and not so much just showcase an outcome. Although the process and the residue of art making were the focus of the book as it was being developed, it also resulted in a coherent narration of another story, the photographer’s story. The hood as an object represents identity, the familiar, fears, fashion and self. It is the feature and the ‘model’ in the photographs and acts as the narrator of the work. The mood of the book channels the influence of contemporary photographers namely Anna Moller, Terra Kate, Marie Retentir, Tom Chambers, Damien Nikora and digital artist Deanne Cheuk. Playing with design, topography, tone, and subtle photographic and digital effects the artist tells a story that although not easily REad it will cause you to look through and find new meaning time and time again.
