Über das Buch
The American Dream: Rosewood House is my mother’s family business and served as a lifestyle for over four decades. Through my upbringing, and as the eldest son, I helped the family business. I made deliveries to thousands of customer's homes and watched the stores when my parents visited Asia on buying trips. I viewed it as work, but in effect for my eye in aesthetic taste, it was a priceless education unmatched by any educational program.
Over decades, I persistently photographed the evolving collection of furniture and art. Creatively, the curation of photographs produced a timeline cataloging the historic and cultural significance. In hindsight, the advantage and takeaway lesson became clear: capture and tell your story.
Consciously or not, we fear that our lives are instantly disposable in a hyper-superficial world. My answer to this ephemeral state of modern day society is a book - a tangible form that you can hold in your hands, a medium you can share and gift to others. These are everlasting qualities that are as timeless as the furniture and art expressed in the collection.
440 pages, 1,390 photographs and illustrations.
