Über das Buch
Occupy USA is a photographic journey through the Occupy Wall Street movement as it spread across the United States in 2011 and 2012.
Beginning at Zuccotti Park in New York, photographer Vance Petrunoff traveled from one Occupy encampment to another, documenting the people, handmade signs, tents, kitchens, meetings, conversations and everyday life that developed inside these temporary communities. His journey took him from New York, Chicago and Seattle to Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Sonoma, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Davis, Honolulu and beyond.
Along the way, Petrunoff began carrying prints of his photographs from one camp to the next, sharing images of one Occupy community with another and creating a visual connection between people separated by hundreds or thousands of miles.
Fifteen years later, Occupy USA brings together this extensive photographic record of a remarkable moment in recent American history—a movement that briefly transformed public spaces across the country into places of protest, debate, community and hope.
