Über das Buch
Nairobi to Victoria Falls
The journey began in Kibera, Nairobi—Africa’s largest informal settlement and home to hundreds of thousands. From its crowded, energetic streets I travelled into the vast openness of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, landscapes alive with wildlife.
Zanzibar offered another contrast: once a centre of the East African slave trade, now a magnet for travellers drawn to its beaches and warm, slow rhythm. What caught my eye most wasn’t the resorts, but the small-scale fishing that still shapes daily life.
Tanzania concluded with the wide plains of Mikumi National Park before I moved on to Kande Beach on Lake Malawi—a place to pause, to swim, and to enjoy the generosity of the nearby village.
In Zambia, South Luangwa delivered more unforgettable encounters on game drives. Crossing into Zimbabwe brought history into sharper focus: the monumental Great Zimbabwe ruins; the Matobo National Park with its San rock art, granite formations, and tracking white rhinos on foot; and the uneasy legacy of Cecil Rhodes’ burial on a sacred hill.
The journey ended at one of the world’s great natural wonders—Victoria Falls—where the roar of water marked a fitting close to a long, remarkable route through eastern and southern Africa.
