Über das Buch
Montana, though a Great Plains state with relatively few round barns, offers an exceptional opportunity to explore these structures in depth. After cataloging thousands of barns in states such as Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana—each with hundreds of examples—the author sought a place where the smaller number of barns would allow for a more detailed and personal study. Montana, with only about 32 known round barns, proved ideal. This book goes beyond simple documentation. Its catalogue incorporates family histories of builders and owners, period newspaper accounts, construction details, and historic and modern photographs. The result is an intimate, richly textured portrait of Montana’s round and multi-sided barns—structures that not only shaped the state’s rural landscape but also reflect the stories of the people and communities who built and used them.
