From 2000 to 2017, U.S. military units deployed across Iraq, Kuwait, and Syria transformed the massive concrete defensive barriers known as T-walls into something unexpected: canvases. Painted with unit logos, mottos, slogans, and symbols of pride, these monolithic slabs became visual markers of identity and resilience in some of the most complex conflict environments of the 21st century.
Photographed at Al Jaber Air Base, Kuwait, in 2017, this collection presents a rare and authentic record of a living tradition inside deployed military communities.
