For many, depiction of the female nude is simply a manifestation of the patriarchal male gaze. Christopher Chevalier believes, however, that this need not be so, and presents a range of images indicating possibilities for a post-patriarchal depiction that is neither puritanical nor pornographic, but exhibits simultaneously the qualities of respectfulness, earthiness and tenderness.
