Über das Buch
Take a drive along the roads of rural America and you're bound to see plenty of old barns. Some have been tended to with the utmost care and stand proudly against the wind and rain, while some sink sadly to the ground, nothing more than tangled skeletons of timber. Others teeter somewhere between life and death—still standing but looking a little shabby, and without prompt attention they, too, will soon fall into ruin.
At some point in my journey as a professional photographer, I fell in love with these old barns and decided to start photographing them. As the years passed, and my collection of old barn images grew, I came to a realization. Although I wasn't repairing slate roofs or rotten support beams, I was preserving history, in my own way, with my camera. This book is a tribute to the many old barns I have photographed, both the ones that still stand and the ones that are no more, as well as the ones caught somewhere in between.
Within these pages you will find hundreds of photographs of old barns from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, New York, West Virginia, Vermont, and Michigan. It is my hope that my skills as a photographer convey the appreciation I feel for the subject matter. I hope you will enjoy the artistry as you thumb the pages, relishing the beauty. If you appreciate old barns as much as I do, it is my wish that this will be a book you will treasure and return to time and time again.
