Über das Buch
This book assembles the most complete corpus, to date, of Walls Engraved pottery. These engraved ceramic vessels were produced by the Indigenous Peoples of the northern Lower Mississippi Valley, AD 1400 - 1700. The book describes the history of the study of Walls Engraved pottery, how this corpus was assembled and organized, provides a study of its origins, and illustrates the corpus using 700 images, photos, and drawings. These engravings illustrate the Native American universe, their cosmoscape, in full bloom and then in its decline after the appearance of European's in the Mississippi River valley. An understanding of the foundational stories these engravings illustrate is important today. They provide a view of the universe that emphasizes man's responsibility to understand the environment around him, to accept the equality of of all things, and the importance of society in the continuity of life.
