Sophisticated Z, a young protagonist with an inquiring mind and a feisty spirit, questions why Black History Month only focuses on the past achievements of great Black leaders rather than celebrating those who are set to shape the world.
She gladly takes up the gauntlet laid down by her parents to “be the change that the world needs”and spots an ideal opportunity to flip Black History Month on its head when her teacher invites the whole school to deliver a presentation as part of the school’s social science competition.
Inviting her lively younger brother, Amazing Chi, to accompany her on drums (aka his thigh), Sophisticated Z takes her audience on an alphabetical journey of present day African American trailblazers who are impacting the world with advancements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
With her innovative presentation on Afrofuturism, Sophisticated Z introduces Black Future Month but is her aim to win the competition or be the change that the world needs?
