TOKYO TEXTURE is a photographic journey through the streets of Tokyo. It tries to capture, compress and recreate the feeling and atmosphere of wandering through the city. It focuses on the many contrasts and contradictions of both the city, and by Japanese society. New and old, order and chaos, rules and rule-breaking, progressive and conservative, warm and cold, lively and lonely. It shies away from traditional storytelling to give the reader room to make their own interpretations and experience the unconventional journey in their own way. It doesn’t try to romanticize the city, but rather gives an unfiltered and raw view in which the reader can find their own take on what beauty can mean in such a chaotic city. It is unapologetically biased, with the intent to force a new perspective and appreciation for the day-to-day life in Tokyo.
