This is the second book written by John Randall, and is a novel based in and around the farming community between the City of Wells and Shepton Mallet. Most of the novel is based on Johns family life from the 1870's to 1930 with the main character Mary Ann who was a very powerful lady capable of matching any man who crossed her path in the course of her farming and cheesemaking work. Johns Randalls ability to recreat in words the atmosphere of life on the farm with its highs and lows is rivitting and once started the reader will not put it down untill you finish the book.
