The story materialized after teaching first grade for nine years. Each year I would introduce the standard MGSE1-NBT-1, which is Skip Counting on Number Lines. Surprisingly, I was taken back in memories of my childhood with this standard, and wanted to introduce this skill in an educational, but fun way to my students, and in doing so Skipping My Way through the First Grade materialized.
