I believed that my family origins were entirely white and British. As a South African brought up during the Apartheid era I was surprised to find that one of my 8x great grandmothers was a black slave brought to the Cape of Good Hope in 1697. I set out to find out as much as possible about her life - and how she became one of the 'stammoeders' of our family.
