"When I Woke Up", is the first installment in the Thoughts of a Young Black Man series, it is a Chapbook in 3 acts and follows the loose narrative of a Young Black Man's first few years in College.

The reader goes along with him via a number of poetry entries, that act as a sort of diary through his various experiences. On his journey, he wakes up to both the harsh realities of his existence and the depths of his soul.
