I am an Italian born, Australian designer, author, photographer and teacher. My work privileges the visual over the textual because I believe that images speak to us in different ways than words.
In 1977, together with the illustration co-operative All Australian Graffiti, I was co-creator
of "The Kevin Pappas Tear Out Postcard Book", (Penguin). The book prodded irreverently
at Australian cultural practices using the medium of the postcard.
In the 70s I researched a visual history of Australian trademarks, "Symbols of Australia", published by Penguin in 1980.
In 2003 my series “Arcadia del Sud” was awarded the prestigious Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award. This work, comprised of reimagined colour photographs from my late teens, reflects on my family's migration experience.
A number of my artworks, photographs, designs and posters are held in the collections of the State
Library of Victoria, the National Gallery of Australia, the Powerhouse Museum, RMIT Design Archive.
