Virgil was born in Texas and started drawing and painting at an early age. Educated as an architect, Virgil is primarily a self -taught artist, advancing his art through continuous painting, workshops ,and classes with respected painters from the United States. Canada, and Australia.

Retiring from his professional career in 2008, Virgil has rededicated himself as a full-time painter in watercolor, gouache , and mixed media. Virgil spends hours each week seeking out, sketching, and painting the small townships and villages in and around The Brandywine valley in Pennsylvania and Delaware. There are numerous sites in the Valley that are possible subjects for artists--many of which have often been overlooked or not seriously considered at all.

Virgil paints en plein air and in his studio in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.

Fachgebiete

Virgil paints primarily in watercolor, but also in gouache and mixed media. Primarily a realist painter, he chooses familiar landscape and townscape subjects-- transforming and often reinventing them with his own vision and use of rich personal color. Virgil is more concerned about conveying a personal and emotional sense of place than with local detail and color. Virgil’s global travels and his love of historical places influence his choice of subjects.
