Über das Buch
JAPAN: IN MY VIEW* is the catalog of my most recent exhibition.
This work was included in the 9th Biennial Art Faculty Exhibition in the Omega Gallery at Carson-Newman College 10 October through 13 November 2009.
This is a small sample of the 12,000 photographs I made in July 2009 while I was traveling in Japan. It had been 13 years since I had lived in Saitama Prefecture. The trip was an occasion to see old & new friends and travel to some cities and towns I had not visited when I lived in Japan. I spent most of five weeks exploring Southwest Japan including Osaka, Kyoto, Shikoku Island, Naoshima (the "Art Island"), Yamaguchi, Kyushu Island, Kobe, Himeji, and many smaller towns and villages including two pottery-making towns, Hagi & Tamba. I also returned to familiar places such as Saitama, Urawa, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ginza, Yokohama, and Kamakura.
315 photographs, including 2 photo mosaics.
A companion edition (with 240 pages and 600 photographs) is now online. It has the same title, but in white letters.
Please take a look at my other books about Japan:
