Über das Buch
Frozen in time, is a series of documentary photographs that were taken in Cyprus, which reveal the lifeless life of the Green Line (buffer zone/no mans' land), that separates the island in two parts since the Turkish invasion in 1974. The project was made in two parts, that were of equally crucial value to the result. The first part was made in July/ August of 2012, and the second part was made in December 2012. The reason for that, was to capture the same shots half a year later, so that I can show how time stands still alongside the Green Line since July 1974. Apart from that, I also tried to capture the drama and "spookiness" of the abandoned and deserted roads, villages, vehicles etc. The book is "divided" into three parts. The first part covers the West Side of the Green Line. The second part covers the last divided capital city in the world, Nicosia (Lefkosia), where the images will take you for a ride into the narrow old roads of the city, where you will see many old buildings still wounded from the war, and also how people live their lives these days around the buffer zone. Finally, the third part covers the East Side of the Green Line.
