Fifteen-year-old Journey is discouraged by her mom announcing her marriage to her boyfriend. Just across the cul-de-sac, sixteen-year-old Thane misses his mom and sister. Both are in situations they can’t get out of, but then Journey's brother, Sam, has the idea to run away into the forest behind their neighborhood. But Sam gets caught in the act and Journey is forced to venture out on her own.
