Gil Plante is not a photographer in the traditional sense of the word. His technique is rather like that of a painter. He masters his camera’s variables the way a painter chooses a specific brush to determine the breadth and power of a brushstroke. This alchemy, sometimes random, tries to demonstrate a form of avant-garde artistic expression where the very concept of photography is thus upset.

A simple line, a composition, and the impetus is given ! then the technique takes over enhances the image.

Within a single space, Gil Plante generates a collision of shapes and light, thereby creating a visual language for expressing abstraction. An interior landscape of sorts, one that inspires as many questions in the artist as it does in the observer. Fragmentations, collages, details invisible to the naked eye, the emotional possibilities are increased tenfold.
