Über das Buch
Vanessa Hutchins, aka V, is a respected art teacher at Laney College in Oakland, California, and a single African American mother looking for love in the modern world of internet dating. Struggling with raising her teenage son, Caden, coupled with her cruel controlling ex-husband, Shane, she navigates her way through a series of disap- pointing relationships looking for “mister right”, only to find a string of immature “mister right nows”.
Somewhat guided by the philosophical ramblings of her
well meaning meddling brother-in-law, Darnell, and her older over protective sibling, Jeanette, Vanessa begins to internalize the folly of her determination to force a loving relationship.
Meanwhile her son, Caden, with the wisdom of his uncle begins to understand that the sheltered life he’s led is coming to a close. He must now decide the kind of person he wants to be as he travels headlong into adulthood.
After a failed relationship with yet another poseur, Matthew, V receives a disturbing email from a potential suitor named Brian. Aided by her best friend, Macy and an unlikely first-year drawing student, Kazoomy Yamada, the trio set a trap to teach Brian the true meaning of “hooking up” while V herself is educated in the art of getting tough.
An eternal message of hope weaves throughout this heartwarming, often hilarious novel, as Vanessa travels the maze of cyber dating, the dynamics of motherhood and family, mid-life and personal growth.
