CNN warned people to stay inside to avoid one of the worst blizzards to hit New York since the late 1800's.
New York City's Blizzard Jonas, January 2016! But reporters and many pedestrians went about their business as if it were just another day. Freitag, an ex-New Yorker was drawn to the story. As a photographer and one of the first TV engineers working in local TV news in Los Angeles, she was drawn to the story...even though she was 3,000 miles from it living in Los Angeles! She photographed the news coverage from a warm cozy couch in a Los Angeles suburban neighborhood. Roads were closed in NY and people walked freely. What a testament to the grit and independence of New Yorkers!
Freitag zoomed past the TV reporters on the television and cropped at the image instantly recreating the solitary, almost apocalyptic, barren landscape that the city seemed to reflect. In other cases, people were just plain having fun.
