Über das Buch
The activities of the Argentine Tango community in London during the period 1999 to 2006 are described largely by means of the author’s collection of photographs of both dancers and musicians.
The dancing is traced from hesitant beginners at evening classes, through studio practice and the very English social tea dances at the Waldorf Hotel on Sunday afternoons , to professional stage performances at the Peacock and the Bloomsbury Theatres .
The musicians who performed at these venues are not forgotten and memories of tango concerts at the Barbican and the Bolivar Hall are also recalled.
The book is dedicated with affection to the late Teddy Peiro, noted bandoneon player who, with his wife Gillian, his family and associates made this photographic record possible. His dream of a United Kingdom Academy of Tango (UKAT)was established in 1998 with the support of the then President of Argentina, Carlos Menem. The ‘Interlude’ of the author’s involvement with the ArgentineTango world concludes with Teddy’s retirement concert at Canning House in June 2006, after which UKAT seems to have lost direction without his driving force .
